追寻远古 创造永恒——申红飙的艺术追求

申红飚的艺术一下子把我们从五光十色、灯红酒绿、肤浅时尚的都市现实拉回到浑朴的远古,让我们在一个英雄远去的时代,进入到另一个世界,去体味自然原始、单纯本色、质朴厚重的人性之美。

Mr. Shen Hongbiao's art brings us back from the urban reality featured by colorful, revelry, superficial fashion to simple and primitive antiquity whereby we can enter another world of an ancient era to experience the beauty of humanity featured by nature, originality, purity, simplicity, plainness and dignity.

申红飙冥冥中有一种对遥远的先祖的膜拜,有一种对那个创造了伟大历史的族群的神往。他那些以蒙古族为主题的雕塑,通过丰硕、庄重、坚实的身体语言,出色地再现了这个民族的内在精神特质。

In the unseen world, Shen Hongbiao shows worship to the remote ancestor and yearns for at heart the group who created the great history. The sculptures, themed by Mongolian, vividly demonstrate the internal spiritual peculiarity of the nationality through rich, solemn and solid body language.

严酷的生存环境,非定居的游牧生活方式,使这个黄色人种中少有的食肉民族具备了一种坚忍不拔、桀骜不驯的猛禽般的民族性格。作为一个有魅力的民族,多少年来一直吸引着艺术家的视线,成为他们梦寐以求的表现主题。特别是生活在这个地区的艺术家和本民族的艺术家,大多数都持守在这一题材领域之中。但迄今为止,能真正体现蒙古族精神的作品却少之又少。这种精神只有在蒙古长调、胡麦和马头琴的吟唱和演奏中多少能够领略和体会。这个长期逐草而居的游牧民族,以它的彪悍、英武、善战,曾经在成吉思汗带领下叱咤风云,驰骋于欧亚大陆。世界上还不曾有一个民族创造过如此辉煌的业绩,为后人留下挥之不去的英雄般的集体记忆。然而它也为艺术家留下一个难题:如何再现这个曾经无坚不摧的民族的精神品格?

Harsh living environment and variable nomadic way of living endow the rare meat - eating nationality in the yellow race a resilient, obstinate and unruly characteristic like bird of prey. This charming nation has been attracting the attention of artists and become the coveted theme for artists to express. In particular, most of the artists living in the region and of the nationality are committed to this topic. Having said that, up till now, few works can truly showcase the Mongolian spirit, which could be more or less evidenced in the chanting and performance of Mongolian long tune, hoomei and horse head string instrument. Living on the steppe for long, the nomadic people once rode the whirlwind and galloped in the Eurasia with its outrageous, valiant spirit led by Genghis Khan. No other nation in the world has created such splendid performance and left unforgettable heroic and collective memory for the generations to come than Mongolian. However, it has left artists with a challenge: how to reproduce the once all-conquering national spirit?

申红飙的艺术似乎给出了一个答案,至少他找了到一种可以进入这一民族的精神通道的语言方式。他没有拘泥于任何史实或生活细节,塑造的人物虽然是典型的蒙古人形象,但不是某个具体的人,而是一个具有民族群体的象征性符号。他借助身体本有的叙事能力,并以视觉的方式将这种“叙事能力"最大化。雕塑家以人体为媒介表达某一主题虽然不是什么新发明,但申红飙却将人体语言发挥到几近极限的程度。其体量之充盈自足、饱满敦实、丰硕劲键,充满生命的张力和原始的魅力。这种对形体的视觉强化自然是导源于精神的诉求并必然指向精神。如他前两年的一组系列作品——《站》、《蹲》、《跪》、《坐》、《躺》,其目的不在表现姿势本身,而是借助于不同姿势,传达出一种“风神",一种无法撼动的体量感。恰如古人所形容的“站如松,行如风,坐如钟,卧如弓"。无论何种姿势,无不具有一种武士风范和坚如磐石的精神力度。

Probably, Mr. Shen's art offers us an answer or at least, he has discovered a language to enter the spiritual path of the nationality. He isn't limited to any historical or living details and the figures he shows are Mongolian people. As things stand, they are not specific men; rather, a symbolic sign of the ethnic group. Based on the intrinsic narrative capacity of body, he maximizes the"narrative capacity"visually. It’s nothing new for a sculptor to express certain theme by human body, but Mr. Shen Hongbiao gives full play to the role of human body language. The size is full, sufficient, plump, solid and strong, featured by the power of life and charisma of originality. Such a visual strengthening of body is naturally originated from the spiritual pursuit while inevitably directing spirit. A series of works he produced two years ago – Stand, Squat, Kneel, Sit, Lie – don’t necessarily show the gestures themselves; rather, he aimed to convey"Aeolus", an unshakable sense of size, as with the description of ancients"stand like a pine; walk like a breeze; sit like a bell; recline like a bow". No matter what the gesture is, it is defined by warrior spirit and rock-firm spiritual vigor.

 

在申红飙的作品中,还表达了这个长期生活在马背上的民族和马的既特殊又自然的关系,马作为人的坐骑,它和人的关系是和谐一体的。从功能上说,马虽然只是人的代步“工具",但这个“工具"却不是机械的、无生命的。无论是云青马、海骝马,还是黑骏马,都显现为人与自然的一种亲和无间的关系。马和人之间似乎有一种天然的生命呼应,成为一种相互怜惜与理解的命运共同体,甚至显示为一种“孪生"状态。人离不开马,马依从于人,人与马这种亲和关系在申红飙的作品中表现得既适度又微妙。

Mr. Shen's works have also pointed to the unique yet natural relationship between the nationality living on the horse back for long and horse. As the mount of people, horse is integral and harmonious with people. From the perspective of function, it is nothing but a"tool"for people to ride instead of walk, but such a"tool"isn’t mechanic and lifeless. Ultramarine horse, liu sea horse and black horse manifest the intimate relationship between man and nature as if there is a natural life echo between them. As such, they become mutually protective and comprehensive common destiny and even"twins". People couldn’t separate from horse while horse yields to people. Such an amiable relationship is reflected properly yet subtly in Mr. Shen’s works.

人与自然的关系,在申红飙的一组新作——“人与牛”中,则显现为另一种状态:力的较量、征服与抗拒。在实际生活中,草原上的牛是最温驯、最少激烈运动的动物,它不像马群中的马,无不刚烈野性,在使用前需要一个驯化的过程,一旦被驯服,它对主人便忠诚无比。但牛不需要这个过程,所以,申红飙的牛是作为“自然力"的象征来表现,牛被表现得壮硕无比,充满野性的力量。人和牛的关系构成一种从征服与抗拒的冲突关系,到被驯服、被利用的和谐关系。

The relations between man and nature are shown differently in the new works of Shen Hongbiao –"man and ox": contest, conquer and resistance of power. In reality, ox on the steppe is the most docile animal with the least fierce movements. Horse is staunch and untamed and a taming process is a must before being used. Once tamed, it will be truly loyal to its master. Unlike horse, ox doesn’t need such a process. Therefore, ox is displayed as the symbol of"natural force", husky and wild. As a result, man and ox establish a harmonious relationship of being tamed and utilized from a conflicting relationship of conquer and resistance.

申红飙的作品虽然是以蒙古族为主题,但并不限于一个特定的族群主题;他的个人化选择虽然出自于他个人和这个族群之间的血脉关系,但作品的终极意义却是对理想人性的表达。这种“理想人性"更接近于人的“自然性"而较少社会性。当一个人在广袤的草原上像植物一样自由自在地生长,未受到任何复杂社会利害关系的污染,他无法不单纯,无法不坦诚,无法不健康而茁壮,无法不充满自然原始的野性力量。我们越是在一个物欲横流、利欲熏心、处处是骗局、处处是陷阱,没有信任感也没有安全感的社会生存,便越是感到申红飙所创造的是一种多么理想的人性,多么永恒的人性之美。

Mr. Shen's works are themed by Mongolian which don't limit to a given nationality theme: the personalized selection comes from the blood relationship between the ethnic group and him, but the ultimate goal of his works is to convey the ideal humanity, which is more close to the"naturality"of people with little sociality. When a people grows freely like a plant in the vast steppe without any impact of complicated social relationship, he will be definitely pure, sincere, healthy and vigorous, and full of natural and primitive wild power. The more we live in a society with rampant material desire and greed amidst frauds, traps without any sense of trust and safety to speak of, the more ideal and eternal we feel the humanity and beauty of humanity created by Mr. Shen Hongbiao.
